Thank you for seeking more information about Bingham & District Choral Society.

We hope that your questions will be answered below but if you need to know more, please don’t hesitate to email us (choir@binghamchoral.org.uk) or ring our Choir Secretary Valerie Morgan on 0115 9332353.

What kind of choir are we?

We are a classical choir composed of soprano, alto, tenor and bass singers. We sing an enormous range of music from the choral works of past centuries to the pieces created by great contemporary composers. While we have a friendly and relaxed vibe and do not hold auditions, we always try to achieve a high standard and take great pride in what we do.

Who leads us?

Our current Musical Director is Stephen Bullamore and our Accompanist is Michael Overbury. Both are extraordinary musicians with an impressive depth of experience in choral music, which they always manage to combine with humour and a light touch when working with the choir.

Will I need to be able to read music?

In general, it is helpful to have some understanding of how to read music. We do, however, have choir members who were unable to do so when they began with us and have since made great strides.

Rehearsals

Our rehearsals take place on Wednesdays during term-time from 7.15-9.30pm, with a 20 minute break in the middle for tea, coffee and a chat. The venue is Carnarvon School, Nursery Road, Bingham NG13 8EH.

We sometimes perform with partner choirs and need to schedule one or two joint rehearsals before the concert. These usually take place on a Saturday morning.

How much will it cost to join?

It is very important to note that we offer new singers a three-week free trial. You can therefore check us out for yourself without any financial obligation.

Membership fees for the 2024/25 season will be £130 per year, which compares favourably with similar choirs in our area. They work out as just £3.25 per session. The fees are payable in September at the beginning of the singing year or can be split into two instalments to be paid in September and November.

Where do we perform?

In some wonderful places! For example, during our 2023/24 season, we sang in Orston Parish Church, Southwell Minster and the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Newark.

What are we singing next?

Our Autumn Concert will take place at Bingham Parish Church at 7.30pm on Saturday 9th November 2024.

We will be singing the Vivaldi Gloria, Bach’s Sleepers Wake and Dixit Dominus by Isabella Leonarda.
Join us in September and you could be singing alongside us!
We look forward very much to welcoming you to our choir.
